Advocacy for psychological rehabilitation and sexual health programme for women with oncological diseases

In 2019 Tanadgoma became interested with problems, related to both psychological rehabilitation and sexual health among women with oncological diseases. In 2021 the organization conducted a research, based on which the problems that women face during treatment and recovery.

In 2022 a working group was created, which united representatives of “Tanadgoma”, “Winner Women’s Club”, Institute for Clinical Oncology and University of Georgia. The goal of the group is to advocate for psychological rehabilitation and sexual health for women survivors.

On May, 20, 2023, in Telavi, a meeting of the working group was conducted. Women survivors, psychologists, oncologists, as well as media representatives attended the meeting. The goal of the meeting was to define and coordinate advocacy efforts.

The following presentations were made:

  • Problems related to sexual health among women with oncological diseases of the reproductive system – Khatuna Khajomia, psychologist, Tanadgoma;
  • Influence of the breast reconstructive surgery on psycho-emotional and sexual health of the oncological patient women – Dina Nemsadze, mammologist, surgeon, oncologist, Institute of Clinical Oncology;
  • Assessment of stigmatization factor and psycho-emotional condition among oncopatient women – Tina Beruchashvili,, “Winner Women’s Club”, University of Georgia;
  • Impact of psychological rehabilitation in the recovery process – Mariam Kutateladze, psychologist, Institute of Clinical Oncology;
  • Importance of media coverage of the psychosocial and sexual health issues of women survivors – Maia Jibuti, psychologist, Tanadgoma.

At the end of the meeting media representatives planned various activities in order to cover these issues in their respective media outets. Besides, the working group elaborated future plans.
