As part of the promotion program for the implementation of “Doctor’s Hour,” training sessions were conducted for teachers and school doctors from 155 and 166 public schools in Tbilisi. On the first day, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the United Nations Population Fund Georgian office (UNFPA), emphasized the significance of implementing the program and discussing health and personal safety issues with students. In 2019 Tanadgoma became interested with problems, related to both psychological rehabilitation and sexual health among women with oncological diseases. In 2021 the organization conducted a research, based on which the problems that women face during treatment and recovery.

In 2022 a working group was created, which united representatives of “Tanadgoma”, “Winner Women’s Club”, Institute for Clinical Oncology and University of Georgia. The goal of the group is to advocate for psychological rehabilitation and sexual health for women survivors.

On May, 20, 2023, in Telavi, a meeting of the working group was conducted. Women survivors, psychologists, oncologists, as well as media representatives attended the meeting. The goal of the meeting was to define and coordinate advocacy efforts.

The following presentations were made:

• Problems related to sexual health among women with oncological diseases of the reproductive system – Khatuna Khajomia, psychologist, Tanadgoma;
• Influence of the breast reconstructive surgery on psycho-emotional and sexual health of the oncological patient women – Dina Nemsadze, mammologist, surgeon, oncologist, Institute of Clinical Oncology;
• Assessment of stigmatization factor and psycho-emotional condition among oncopatient women – Tina Beruchashvili,, “Winner Women’s Club”, University of Georgia;
• Impact of psychological rehabilitation in the recovery process – Mariam Kutateladze, psychologist, Institute of Clinical Oncology;
• Importance of media coverage of the psychosocial and sexual health issues of women survivors – Maia Jibuti, psychologist, Tanadgoma.

Since 2022 Tanadgoma has been implementing a Digital Sexuality Education (DSE) project, under which on March 27-30 a Co-creation Workshop took place.

 

Objectives of the workshop were as follows:

 

• Co-develop fundamental digital strategies to kickstart the DSE project,
• Strengthen team’s digital skills by providing resources and personalize content.

On April 6, 2023, SRHR Coordination Platform held its regular meeting. During the meeting:

• A newly joined member organization Community Development Platform (CDP) presented its activities;
• Tanadgoma presented results and recommendations of a qualitative research on sexual and reproductive needs among women with mobility restrictions;
• Tanadgoma presented analysis of Georgian and European State-funded Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Programs.

At the end of the meeting WISG representative facilitated a discussion on process around the revoked foreign agents’ law and platform members’ strategies and plans for contradicting such initiatives in the future.

On July, 14, another meeting of SRHR Coordination Platform took place. During the meeting, members of the platform discussed results of a research, conducted in Georgia using UNESCO Sexuality Education and Review Assessment tool (SERAT), reviewed SRHR issues’ incorporation into the subject standards of the National Curriculum, and discussed communication campaign aimed at increasing acceptability and creating favorable environment or CSE in Georgia.

On June 2, 2022, at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, a final meeting of a second stage under a joint program of the Ministry, UNFPA Georgia Country Office and organization „Tanadgoma“ was held.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mrs. Tamar Makharashvili thanked the parties involved in the program for cooperation and spoke about importance of raising awareness and increasing knowledge about safety and healthy lifestyle among school students.

The second pilot of the program „Doctor’s hour“ was implemented in 12 public schools at the elementary education level. Under the pilot lesson’s plans were prepared for I-VI grades according  to UNESCO standards.

At the meeting representatives of schools engaged in the pilot made presentations of the activities implemented in their respective schools.

On April, 6 SRHR Coordination platform conducted the first meeting of the year. During the meeting three presentation were made:

• Representative of a research organization EPRA Sofio Dolidze reviewed results of quantitative part of a survey initiated by Tanadgoma – “Sexuality education: awareness and attitudes of Georgian population“
• Ketevan Bojgua, representing organization DemLab, presented a chatbot on reproductive and sexual health and rights
• Tanadgoma representative Ketevan Chelidze presented and discussed with the platform members communication strategy for supporting HPV vaccination process in Georgia

In 2020-2021, with financial support of WEEPI (Western-Eastern European Partnership Initiative on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and TB), Tanadgoma implemented a project “Piloting HIV self-testing strategies for partners of the key populations”. The project aimed at increasing coverage of sexual partners of MSM, female and transgender sex workers through piloting HIV self-testing delivery strategies.

 

The project included three phases of research:

 

• Participatory Action Research
• Identifying HIV self-testing strategies using qualitative research methods
• Piloting HIV self-testing strategies among sexual partners of MSM, transgender and women sex workers through quantitative research – pragmatic trial

 

On December 30, 2021 an online meeting was conducted in order to present results of the conducted research. Representatives of various state, non-governmental and community organizations attended the meeting, such as Country Coordination Mechanism, National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, Georgian Association of Dermato-Venerologists, Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center, UN agencies (WHO, UNFPA), Georgian Harm Reduction Network, “Equality Movement”, “Temida”, Bemoni Public Union, etc.

 

Findings, results and recommendations of the research were presented at the meeting, followed by the discussion.

 

Based on the research results, Tanadgoma plans to use the same three-phase approach to study HIV self-testing strategies among partners of other key populations. On December 27, 2021, a presentation of a pilot project “Doctor’s Hour” was conducted. The pilot project was implemented jointly by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, UNFPA Georgia Country Office and Center for Information and Counseling on Reproductive Health – Tanadgoma.

The meeting was led by the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mrs. Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Head of UNFPA Country Office Mrs. Lela Bakradze and Executive Director of Tanadgoma Mrs. Nino Tsereteli. Representatives of various public schools attended the presentation.

The First Deputy Minister thanked all parties involved in the pilot program for effective partnership and talked about importance of awareness raising on healthy life skills and safety among school students. Mrs. Dgebuadze highlighted that from 2022 Doctor’s Hour will become mandatory in all public schools of Georgia and school doctors will be actively involved in both medical and educational activities. Hence, the students will be able to receive information directly from professionals on various important topics, such as healthy meals, vaccination, safety measures, hygiene norms, keeping personal space, cybersecurity, etc.

During the first semester of 2021-2022 year piloting of “Doctor’s Hour” took place in 6 public schools of Tbilisi, targeting students of I-VI grades. Within the pilot program, scenarios and plans for lessons were prepared according to UNESCO standards.
